Mini-Review
This app is now several years old, but I just recently came across it! It’s not available on Steam, Meta, Viveport, or any other platform. Instead, it’s a direct download from the developer’s web site. It was originally hoped to be used as a tie-in to the Blade Runner 2049 movie release, but that didn’t end up working out. Instead, you can install it (sorry, this won’t run standalone), put on your headset, and experience some of the apartment building and apartment itself from the movie’s main character, Deckard.
Experience
Exploring the space works like most immersive VR. Walk around or teleport to see each of the rooms and enjoy the details. There isn’t much to do actively, although you can open a door, play the piano, and start the Esper Machine, plus a few more to discover.
Visuals and Sound
The overall look is great. High-quality imagery, special effects like haze and lens flares, and smooth animations where needed. The background music is perfect Blade Runner music, and items that need to make sound work appropriately. It’s the closest you can feel to being in the movie!
Verdict
Overall, it’s really great! I had fun and was impressed that it was free. I think since it’s directly using Blade Runner names and concepts, it probably had to be free, but I’m glad that it’s available. The same developer has also made a Lord of the Rings scene, and an Avatar scene which I’ll be covering soon!
