As mentioned before in our post on historic disasters in VR, there’s nothing like seeing the past come alive in a headset. It’s been over 100 years since the fateful event, yet we remain fascinated by the story of opulence and human tragedy. A few months ago, Vintage Digital Revival released their biggest update yet to their recreation of the Titanic inside and out. Titanic: Project 401 is their ongoing project to rebuild every last detail in stunning 3D for both desktop and virtual reality.
You can learn more and download their free public demo from their web site or join their Patreon for more frequent updates and insider details. It’s fairly active and well worth it if you are captivated by history in this form. If all you know of the Titanic is what you saw in the 1997 movie, you’ve probably already been captivated by its grandeur. Exploring it interactively, especially in VR, is completely next level. Check it out now!
Important note: Their most recent update doesn’t yet support VR. You can still explore in VR using their TITANIC: HONOR AND GLORY | DEMO 3 VR link on the Downloads page, but it’s lacking many of the updates that came with the April update. Hopefully they’ll add VR support to the latest version soon!
