The blockbuster touring exhibition from Egypt is currently at de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, from 20 August 2022 until 12 February 2023. From here it will head to Europe, where the first stop is at La Villette cultural park in Paris (April – September 2023).
A multisensory exhibition showcasing 181 objects will explore the life and accomplishments of Ramses II, also known as Ramses the Great. One of the most prolific builders ancient Egypt, from Abu Simbel in the south to the Ramesseum in Luxor, Ramses left his mark on buildings across Egypt and Nubia like no other Egyptian monarch.
Besides exception artefacts representing the king himself, there are also sarcophagi, animal mummies, jewelry, royal masks, amulets, and exquisite golden treasures from the tomb of Ramses. This collection of extraordinary objects is a testament to the workmanship of ancient Egyptian craftspeople. The exhibition includes a virtual reality trip to ancient Egypt.

Ramses & Nefertari: Journey to Osiris, an immersive VR experience
The exhibition will feature “Ramses & Nefertari: Journey to Osiris,” an immersive VR experience that takes you on a whirlwind tour of two of Ramses’ most impressive monuments, Abu Simbel and Nefertari’s Tomb. The experience is led by the ghostly incarnation of Ramses’ illustrious wife, Nefertari, as she attempts to make it back to the afterlife and her loving husband. Along the way, Nefertari will share how Ramses transformed Egypt as a general, architect, and custodian of the ancient Egyptian religion. With cinematic motion chairs, viewers will fly through temples, sandstorms, and even come face-to-face with Ramses’ mummy in this electrifying animated journey. Both educational and exhilarating, this experience will give users an up-close look into the life, achievements, and stunning monuments of Ramses the Great.
