There are so many VR experiences out there waiting to transport you to new places around the world! This is my favorite thing about virtual reality, and I love to share it with our readers on VR Voyaging. You can travel to far-off locales, see places normally inaccessible, walk around reconstructions of historic sites, and learn all about them. Photos are nice, but there’s nothing quite like full-scale immersion.
One of the goals here at VR Voyaging is to create a searchable database of these great location-based apps. Trying to find things on Steam or the Oculus store can be frustrating since they’re mixed in with games and it seems to require some amount of luck to find what you’re looking for. We hope to make this process easier by cataloging the non-gaming experiential apps so you can have more fun using them instead of finding them.
Every app that represents a real-world place is tagged on our world map (sorry, not the outer space ones yet!). We indicate which apps are free, when they were released, and which headsets they work with. We try to make it easy to narrow down your search in ways that the app stores don’t. Apps like BRINK Traveler and Blueplanet can include large numbers of locations. We map all of them!
Up until now, we’ve only been listing apps as we review them. As of this week, we’re now including any relevant experience-based apps as soon as we learn about them so you can find them easily. As we get to reviewing them, we’ll add our rating, but you can find them in the results as soon as we are aware of them.
Use our world map search tool to narrow down your search geographically, or our advanced search in the sidebar to filter by category and headset, by free, and by whether or not we’ve reviewed it yet. You’re sure to find something fun!
